Dama is writing the musical book ‘Tuck – The Musical’, with a supporting grant from Cendana. The book writing is undertaken by a creative team comprising Pun Kai Loon, Loh Ui Li, Marina Tan and Li Yang.
Dama’s producer Khor Seng Chew and artistic director Pun Kai Loon contacted The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Society up in Penang and met up with Mr Clement Liang, the Honorary Treasurer of the Society and a heritage historian cum activist.
After the discussion and sharing over lunch, the exploration of the historical trails of Dr Wu’s early days and later days in Penang.
Arrived at the site of the premises housing the Anti-Opium Association of Penang. The façade of the premises has been given a make-over.
“Dr Wu founded Anti Opium Association (1906) at 72, Love Lane.” (Source: The Dr. Wu Lien-Teh Society) Dr Wu served as the President of the Association and Secretary-General of the first Anti-Opium Conference of the Straits Settlements and Federated Malays States. The resolutions passed were submitted to the Colonial Government and posted all over the world.
Though the premises of the Anti-Opium Association have now been renovated and converted into a school, the place used to house victims of the habit and provided them with free lodging, food, medicine and attendance.
There was a bit of a walkabout to several historical sites as they were close by.
