Farewell My Combine & The Jade Bracelet


Dama Asia International Opera Series 2015

TWO Beijing Opera singers and teachers from Beijing National Academy of Chinese Theatre will perform excerpts of Farewell My Combine and The Jade Bracelet. The singers include ZHANG Yanhong, a master degree holder in Chinese Opera, who is a well-known author and video presenter for the training of the role of dan (young female). She has professed in Germany, Switzerland, France, England and Korea and has taught at the Binghamton University, New York; as well as JIA Jingsong, who has performed as Liang Shan Bo in Butterfly Lover, with the international renown Beijing opera singer ZHANG Huo Ding in 2014. Also a master degree graduate from Beijing National Academy of Chinese Theatre Arts, Jia has won many Beijing opera singing awards organised by CCTV. He received the Best Teacher Award from The Beijing Opera Foundation.

“Farewell My Concubine”
Xiang Yu, king of the Chu kingdom, fought with Han kingdom. He made a mistake and turned a deaf ear to his concubine Yu Ji.
As a result, he was besieged at Gaixia. Han played a trick on Xiang Yu and made him thought he was hopeless. In this situation, Yu Ji danced for Xiang Yu with swords and then killed herself deliberately. Being defeated, Xiang Yu was too ashamed to go back to his hometown, he killed himself too beside the Wujiang River.
